Costco Rotisserie Chicken Breast Strips - Tyson

Tyson Rotisserie Chicken Breast Strips at Costco

Costco is always changing its inventory and adding new frozen food options, and I was pleasantly surprised to see them bring back these Tyson unbreaded rotisserie chicken strips.

A good majority of Costco’s frozen food offerings are breaded, such as the Korean fried chicken or chicken nuggets, so it’s nice to have a naked or unbreaded frozen chicken option.

Tyson also sells an unbreaded
blackened chicken

A Closer Look At Tyson’s Rotisserie Strips from Costco

Chicken Breast Strips With Rib Meat

Printed on the bag in large font is “Rotisserie Chicken Breast Strips,” accompanied by smaller font that states the chicken is made with rib meat and fully cooked.

What is rib meat? From the packaging, rib meat is obviously less desirable than chicken breast meat, but what exactly is it? Well, chicken rib meat comes from the rib portion of the chicken and is a lower-cost cut.

Do not confuse rib meat with the chicken tender or tenderloin.

100% Natural Chicken

Who doesn’t like 100% natural chicken? In fact, when you think about it, isn’t all chicken natural and what the heck would unnatural chicken be?

Well, according to the USDA, natural chicken refers to minimally processed chicken with no artificial ingredients. I understand this is a frozen food product, and I’m glad the Tyson unbreaded chicken strips are “natural chicken,” but I consider this to be the bare minimum for any frozen chicken item and not really something to brag about.

No Antibiotics Ever

Tyson’s rotisserie chicken breast strips come from chickens that are raised with no antibiotics ever and raised with no added hormones or steroids. It’s great that this chicken seems to be raised naturally, but it’s also worth noting that federal regulations prohibit the use of added hormones or steroids in chicken.

So really, all chicken you are consuming has no hormones and steroids, and this is just a clever marketing claim.

Costco Cost Comparison

Costco’s 3-pound frozen bag of Tyson Rotisserie chicken strips retails for $16.99 or $5.66 per pound. At retail, this does seem a little pricey to me, as Costco’s fresh air-chilled chicken costs $3.49 a pound. Yes, these rotisserie chicken strips are fully cooked, but the convenience definitely has a price.

I picked up the bag for $11.99 during a Costco sale, saving $5 or 30%. The sale dropped the price down to $4 per pound which is much more reasonable.

Rotisserie Chicken Strips Taste Test

I’ve eaten a lot of frozen food over the years, and I have to say I was a little concerned with these rotisserie chicken strips from Costco. When frozen chicken isn’t breaded, it has a tendency to turn out rubbery and chewy, but I’m hoping in 2023, we have had made the technological advances to deliver palatable frozen chicken.

Thankfully, these frozen rotisserie chicken strips were pretty good for the most part. I’ve almost eaten the entire bag now, and I’ve had maybe one or two pieces of chicken that felt like a rubbery frozen chicken product from the early 2000s.

A good majority of the chicken strips were quite tender, and the flavor was enjoyable as well.

Rotisserie Chicken Breast Strips

Now, it is still obvious these are previously frozen chicken strips, as the texture wasn’t as clean or nice as fresh chicken strips, but these have exceeded my expectations as an unbreaded frozen chicken product. Some of the chicken pieces were a little salty at times, but at least that means, no additional sauces or dip is needed.

They aren’t good enough to crave, but are more than satisfying when you are in a pinch for time or just don’t have anything else to eat.

How to Cook the tyson Rotisserie Chicken Breast Strips

There are four different methods to cook the Tyson Rotisserie Chicken Breast Strips; you can bake them in the oven, cook them in the skillet, heat them in the microwave, or air fry them.

When I’m looking for frozen foods, I’m looking for convenience. Having cooking instructions for multiple devices appeals to everybody and makes these a great option for when you want a more enjoyable meal or something quick and on the go.

Costco Frozen Rotisserie Chicken Strips Cooking Instructions

Conventional Oven (Preferred Method)

  • Preheat to 375°F.
  • Place frozen chicken strips on a baking sheet.
  • Heat for 18-22 Minutes.

Skillet

  • Place 1 tablespoon of cooking oil and 1 tablespoon of water in an unheated skillet.
  • Place the frozen chicken strips unstacked in the bottom of the skillet.
  • Cover and heat for 2-4 minutes over medium heat.
  • Uncover, flip, and heat for an additional 6 minutes.

Microwave

  • Arrange 2-4 frozen chicken strips on a microwave-safe plate.
  • Heat, covered with a microwave-safe wrap on high for 2-3 minutes. Do not overheat.
  • Let stand for 1-2 minutes before serving.

I found the microwave directions the most interesting for these rotisserie chicken strips. I’m not a fan of microwaving plastics, even if they are labeled microwave-safe, so I have and will continue to avoid microwaving these naked chicken strips.

Air Fryer

  • Place frozen chicken strips in a single layer on the rack.
  • Set Air Fryer to 350°F
  • Heat for 7-9 minutes.
  • Let stand for 1-2 minutes before removing.

This is a great nutritional label for most diets as this is a very high-protein food. The fat per serving is only 3.5 grams due to the meat being lean chicken breast meat.

The 2 grams of carbohydrates per serving is nice but also a little annoying. This is simple chicken breast meat, so there should be 0 grams of carbs, which means Tyson adds the extra carbs through the seasoning.
