What are Acai Berries?

Acai (Ah-Sigh-Ee) berries are one of the more popular “superfoods” consumed in America today. They are grown on palm trees along the riverbanks of the Amazon rainforest.

Acai berries are filled with antioxidants that can benefit your brain, heart, and overall health. There aren’t very many drawbacks to acai berries, and they are a great addition to almost any diet.

Costco’s Acai Juice - Sambazon - Voting With Your Dollar

Sambazon makes the acai juice that is sold at Costco, and they seem to be a company based on integrity and doing good in the world.

The acai berries and the sugar used in the acai juice are both organic and fair trade certified and come from Brazil.

They support the people of the Amazon with their acai berry purchases and are also committed to protecting the rainforest and endangered species, building schools, and paying fair wages.

Sambazon Recycling Efforts

And, of course, when it comes to recycling, Sambazon does a great job as well. They use post-consumer recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and do promote recycling the bottle again. They even give recycling directions and provide a tear line to remove the label.

There isn’t a lot to dislike about Sambazon!

Costco Cost Comparison

How Much Does Acai Juice Cost at Costco?

Costco sells the Sambazon Acai Juice for $7.99. At first glance, this may seem like a high price for juice, but we have to keep in mind this is acai juice using acai berries imported from Brazil.

This is a solid Costco deal for a Costco-sized bottle.

Amazing Sale Price

The retail price is $7.99 for the 64-ounce bottle of Sambazon, but the acai juice will go on sale for a price of $4.79. This is a discount of $3.20 or a 40% discount.

This is a massive discount and takes this acai juice into must-buy territory. The price is almost too good to be true.

At retail, the price per ounce is $0.12, and when Costco puts the acai berry juice on sale, the price per ounce drops to a staggeringly low $0.08.

Before purchasing the Costco acai juice, I didn’t really know much about acai juice prices, but I did know that I was getting one heck of a deal.

Costco vs The Competition

My local Wholefoods retails a 32-ounce bottle of Sambazon Acai Juice for $6.99, and for Bezos Prime members, the acai juice can be had for $5.39. This is a sale price per ounce of $0.17

Target sells the same 32-ounce bottle for $5.99 or $0.19 per ounce.

Costco Easily Wins On Price

Costco again has by far the best price at retail, and when on sale, it isn’t even close. When the Costco acai juice is discounted, you can purchase a bottle twice the size offered by their competitors for less money.

This is a fantastic deal from a great company for a tasty and unique drink.

Costco Acai Juice First Impressions & Taste Test

The Acai Juice has a deep purple-brownish color and is slightly thicker than a standard fruit juice you may buy at a grocery store. Costco’s acai juice is made with 100% juice which is always nice.

Great Texture With Bits of Berry

The juice is smooth for the most part, but there are teeny tiny specks of acai berry in the juice. They blend in with the juice, so I can’t spot them with my eye, but they can be felt on the tongue and in the mouth.

They are a little smaller than coarse ground black pepper and can be spotted on the interior of your glass after drinking. It’s a lovely added texture.

Acai Berry Juice Flavor

Sambazon Acai juice tastes like a typical berry juice but has a unique acai taste. This juice is pure acai juice, so the acai berry flavor can shine through.

The acai juice has the distinct earthy aftertaste, and many people also notice a slight chocolate flavor.

Some additional sugars are added into the drink, but the juice is not overly sweet. I’m not a big sweets guy, and I really appreciate how nicely blended the sweetness and earthiness are.

Acai Juice Nutritional Information

How Many Calories in Costco Acai Juice

One serving of Acai Juice will be 8 fluid ounces and will contain 140 calories. Those calories will come from 3 grams of fat, 29 grams of carbs, and 24 grams of added sugars.

There is no protein in this Costco acai juice.

The nutritional label isn’t exactly the greatest, but it is as expected for a juice. The 24 grams of added sugar seems excessive, but the juice isn’t overly sweet.

It does seem like a necessity to add in the additional sugars to flavor the acai juice.

Love this juice and the açaí health benefits. I’ve been buying this product for years!
Yes, I have been buying ACAI juice for years. Tried to find it on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 and it seems as though it was discontinued at the DC market. Very disappointed.

  1. Sambazon Acai – I am disappointed that you’re deleting this product! I will now have to shop at Publix or Target to be able to purchase this product and I have been your customer since 1987!
