Bibigo Steamed Soup Dumplings at Costco

Costco sells Bibigo Steamed Soup Dumplings for $12.49. I found these dumplings in Costco’s frozen food section near some other Asian-inspired items, such as the vegetable spring rollsfrozen ramen, and the Kirkland Signature tempura shrimp.

6-Trays-of-Dumplings-from-Costco

A box of Bibigo dumplings from Costco weighs 2.47 pounds and contains six individually wrapped trays of dumplings.

The Bibigo dumplings come precooked and only need to be heated in the microwave.

Each tray holds six dumplings, making 36 fully cooked Costco soup dumplings for the entire box.

Dumpling Ingredients

The juicy dumplings are made with chicken, cabbage, onion, and mushrooms all wrapped in a tender wrapper. Bibigo also includes 6 individual dipping sauce packets.

Dumpling vs Potsticker

I’ve reviewed a few different dumpling-type products from Costco, such as the potstickers and the Bibigo wontons. To clarify, the term dumpling refers to a small piece of dough wrapped around a filling.

Dumpling filling is typically made from meats and vegetables, and can be either sweet or savory. Dumplings can be steamed, boiled, or fried.

Potstickers are one specific type of dumpling as they fit the definition of dough wrapped around a filling. All potstickers are dumplings, but not all dumplings are potstickers. It’s a similar situation to squares and rectangles.

What differentiates a potsticker from the rest of the dumpling family is that they are usually pan-fried and will have a crispy and crunchy exterior.

Wontons are also part of the dumpling family but are often made with a thinner dough. Typically wontons are not served with dipping sauce as the filling is fully seasoned and are often served in soups.

Costco also sells a wonton/dumpling soup that I will review soon!

Costco Cost Comparison - Frozen Steamed Soup Dumplings

How much are Bibigo Soup Dumplings at Costco?

Costco sells Bibigo chicken and vegetable dumplings for $12.49, but they can be had for $8.99 when on sale. This is a massive $3.50 or 28% discount.

Essentially, you’re getting nearly two boxes or 12 dumplings for free. That’s not a bad deal!

Bibigo-Dumplings

Each tray of six steamed soup dumplings costs $2.08 at the retail price of $12.49, and each individual dumpling costs $0.35.

When Costco offers a discount on Bibigo dumplings, the price per tray falls to $1.50, and each Costco steamed dumpling costs $0.25.

Costco vs The Competition

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Bibigo sells a 36-count of dumplings anywhere besides Costco. In fact, these exact dumplings are rather hard to find elsewhere.

My local grocery store Tom Thumb sells a 6-pack (1 Tray) of Bibigo dumplings for $3.49. This is over twice the sale price of a tray of steamed dumplings from Costco!

Convenient Instructions

Before I get into the dumpling review, I want to mention two key points. First, I love how Bibigo has printed the instructions on the bag of each individual tray.

One of the most annoying things is to have to keep a large box around, so you have a copy of the cooking instructions.

Cooked-Bibigo-Dumplings

This Bibigo box is definitely on the larger side, and it’s nice to be able to freeze the food without having to worry about the heating instructions.

Designated Dipping Sauce Spots

The second positive of these Costco dumplings is that each tray has a spot for the soy dipping sauce.

The trays have designated sauce pouring spots that will assist in evenly distributing the sauce amongst the six dumplings.

Easy to Cook

For heating, everything was easy and went well. I microwaved the food for 2 minutes as instructed, and it came out hot and ready to eat.

I liked eating the dumplings directly from the tray; there’s less cleanup, and the dipping sauce spot is fun.

Bibigo-Chicken-and-Vegetable-Dumpling-Costco

Because these are steamed dumplings, the wrapper/skin is very soft and tender. The wrapper did a great job of holding in the filling while still being relatively thin and fluffy.

I actually enjoyed the wrapper and much preferred it over the other Costco dumplings I have tried, such as the wontons or the potstickers.

Solid chicken and vegetable filling

The chicken and vegetable filling was good but not award-winning. There are always expectations that need to be held in check when it comes to Costco’s frozen foods, but these are very tasty for what they are.

Costco-Bibigo-Dumplings-Inside

Obviously, it’s not going to be the best quality chicken, but it’s juicy, flavorful, and gets the job done. The onion and cabbage flavor and texture are very present, and a slight hint of ginger shines through.

Everything pairs so well that these are best when you eat the entire dumpling in one bite.

Great Dipping Sauce

The dipping sauce is soy sauce based and has a salty flavor profile with a touch of sweetness. The sauce soaks into the dumpling wrapper and is a must-add to each and every dumpling.

A touch of sriracha or chili oil would add some nice heat to the sauce and enhance the Bibigo dumplings.

Will you find better at a local dim sum or Asian restaurant? Most likely, but these are great at $1.50 per tray with only 2 minutes of prep time.

They are super versatile, as they can be eaten as-is for a quick snack or as an appetizer to an entree like Orange Chicken. You won’t regret having these Costco soup dumplings in your freezer.

Bibigo Soup Steamed Dumplings Heating/Cooking Instructions

One of the major selling points of these Costco dumplings by Bibigo is how easy they are to heat up. You simply microwave them directly in the bag and tray for 2 minutes. Pour the sauce into the specified sauce spots and enjoy!

Use Microwave Only

    • Cut one corner of the bag to allow the steam to escape.
    • Place the package directly into the microwave (1000W) and heat on high for 2 minutes.
    • Cautiously open the bag at the seams and remove the tray. Be careful with hot steam.
    • Serve Costco Bibigo Steamed Soup Dumplings on the tray or on a plate & ENJOY!

Caution: Let the dumplings sit for 1 minute before removing them from the microwave.

This is one of the rare Costco frozen foods that will be microwave only. Most frozen foods usually provide a microwave method in addition to oven-baked directions, air fry, or pan cook options.

Costco-Chicken-and-Vegetable-Dumpling-Cooking-Instructions

If you want to add these dumplings to a soup, follow the recommended cooking method. Then once the dumplings are properly heated, you can remove them from the tray and place them in your soup.

You can discard the sauce or even pour a little into the dumpling soup. Either way, the Costco dumplings will take on quite a bit of the soup/broth’s flavor.

Breaking this down further, each chicken and vegetable dumpling has 42 calories from 1.2 grams of fat, 5.6 grams of protein and 2.5 grams of protein.

Nutrition Analysis

I would say this isn’t half bad for the amount of food and how tasty the dumplings are.

Any sort of dumpling will usually have an average nutritional profile at best, considering the high amount of carbs that comes from the wrapper.

Costco-Dumpling-dipping-Sauce-Nutrition

Each dumpling had around the amount of carbs I would have expected it to, but I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of total protein.

Dipping Sauce Nutrition & Sodium Content

The sauce is soy sauce based, so it will be fairly light in calories. Each packet of dipping sauce contains only 25 calories with 0 grams of fat, 6 grams of carbs, and 1 gram of protein.

The one drawback is the amount of sodium in each tray of dumplings from Costco. A 6-pack of dumplings will have 570mg of sodium which is 24% of the recommended daily value. Not the worst I’ve seen, and is actually pretty on par for frozen foods, but still something to be aware of.

he sauce also contains 370mg of sodium, making the total sodium intake for the dumplings and the sauce to be 940mg. Combined, this is nearly 40% of the daily recommended value!

Final Thoughts

These Costco steamed soup dumplings by Bibigo are a fun and enjoyable treat. The tray is unique, and the sauce pairs really well with the chicken and vegetable dumplings.

They are perfect when you are in a pinch and need a quick snack. I like to eat them as-is or even add them to soups. Costco’s price is more than fair for these frozen dumplings, and when on sale at $8.99, you can’t really go wrong.

  1. There’s a much better pork version at trader joes, likely same company but hidden name. In comparison, the taste of these are a 6 and the trader joes an 8
