I-MEI Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream Bar at Costco

Costco sells a 12 pack of IMEI Brown Sugar Boba Ice Milk Bars for $13.99. The Boba Ice Cream Bars can be found in the frozen food aisles near other desserts such as the Vanilla Ice CreamInstant BobaMini Cheesecakes, and the Acai Bowls.

Each pack contains 12 boba ice cream bars that weigh approximately 3 ounces each. I’m super excited to try these because the Costco Boba Ice Cream Bars are essentially a frozen version of the popular brown sugar boba drink.

Costco also sells a non-refrigerated brown sugar boba mochi snack hybrid

What is Boba?

Boba was invented in Taiwan in the 1980’s and is made by combining cold tea with tapioca balls. Boba is served with a large straw that allows you to drink the tea as well as to suck up the chewy tapioca balls.

The Tapioca Balls are particularly known for their chewy texture that is extremely unique and hard to find elsewhere.

Brown Sugar Boba vs Boba Tea

Brown Sugar Boba Drinks are slightly different from your typical boba tea as there is no tea in the drink itself. Brown Sugar Boba is made with milk, brown sugar syrup, and the famous boba tapioca balls.

These ice cream bars are made with a combination of milk, brown sugar, and filled with boba balls. The end result is an ice cream/popsicle bar that tastes delicious and has a uniquely chewy texture.

Costco Cost Comparison - Boba Ice Cream

How Much Do The Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream Bars cost at Costco?

The 12 pack of Boba Ice Creams Bars from Costco cost $13.99. This breaks down to a price of $1.17 per bar.

Brown-Sugar-Boba-Ice-Cream

Considering that boba shops charge $5 or even more for a boba tea, I think $1.17 for a popsicle version of a boba drink is not a bad price by any means.

These are also the same price as Costco’s Tiramisu Cups!

Other Retailers Don't Sell Boba Ice Cream Bars

After a little bit of research, it doesn’t appear that Boba Ice Cream bars are available at very many stores outside of Costco. Neither Sam’s Club nor Target carries boba ice cream bars.

I-Mei’s Boba Ice Cream Bars with Tapioca Balls appear to be a Costco exclusive item!

Boba Ice Cream Alternatives

Other retailers such as Trader Joe’s sells a cold brew coffee and boba ice cream. This is more of a regular coffee ice cream with added tapioca balls and not so much an ice cream bar version of a boba drink.

Convenient Packaging

One thing I do have to mention about the I-Mei Boba Ice Cream from Costco is that the ice cream bars are actually packed in 3 different boxes within the main package.

I always appreciate this because I obviously shop at Costco and don’t always have that much freezer space available. Multiple boxes allows me to separate the boxes and more efficiently utilize freezer space, as well as discard the boxes when I finish the boba ice cream.

The I-Mei Boba Ice Cream Bars are imported from Taipei Taiwan and there is very little English on the packaging.

Boba Ice Cream Taste Test

The Boba Ice Cream Bars are delicious. The ice cream has a strong brown sugar taste that blends in perfectly with the milk, and the tapioca balls are excellent.

The treat is a perfect frozen ice cream/popsicle version of a brown sugar boba drink.

Taste

These boba ice cream bars from Costco are amazing. They are sweet, but not overly sweet. The boba ingredients are mixed in very nicely and you can clearly taste the milk, brown sugar, and the tapioca balls.

I-Mei did an excellent job with these boba ice milk bars as the flavor is very reminiscent of an actual brown sugar boba drink.

Texture

The texture of the ice cream itself is probably the most special aspect of the bar. The ice cream is frozen, but also slightly chewy and gooey. It feels like a popsicle that was left out to defrost for a few minutes.

It may not be the texture for everybody, but I really enjoyed it and felt that it was perfect for a boba ice cream bar.

The milk is a nice base for the ice cream bar and it really makes the boba ice cream feel full.

Tapioca Balls

There is a solid amount of tapioca balls in each Costco boba ice cream bar. The tapioca balls or pearls are the main reason that people drink boba, and it should be no different for the boba ice cream.

I-Mei doesn’t skimp out on the tapioca balls and there seems to be at least 1 or 2 boba tapioca balls per bite.

The tapioca balls have the same chewy, gummy, and yummy texture that they are known for, and they really enhance the already delicious ice cream bar.

Nutritional Information - Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream Bar

How Many Calories in Costco's Boba Ice Cream?

Each Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream from Costco is going to contain 160 calories made up of 5 grams of fat, 27 grams of carbs, and 1 gram of protein.

Boba-Ice-Cream-Bars-Nutritional-Information

This is a very acceptable nutritional profile for ice cream and I would even say the 160 calories is on the lower end for such a delicious treat like this one.

As expected, the only real negative is going to be the 27 grams of carbs and the 17 grams of sugar (16 grams of added sugar).

Final Thoughts

Costco’s Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream Bars are a winner. The price is more than fair, especially for an ice cream that includes tapioca balls and the frozen treat is absolutely delicious.

The taste of a boba drink is encapsulated perfectly in the frozen popsicle bar and is a great way to enjoy all of the flavors and textures of a brown sugar boba drink.

The nutritional label is tolerable, and I would recommend this ice cream bar to any and all boba fans. Give these a try, you won’t be disappointed.

  1. Costco no longer sells these bars!
So rude to get us addicted to foods and then delete them from us!
They did same thing last year with the Jonny organic watermelon ice pops!
