Looking for a new pasta to try? The Costco Butternut Squash Ravioli by Giovanni Rana is a seasonal take on the traditional cheese ravioli dish. It’s a great option to try if you are looking for a rich-tasting pasta with a fun twist. It incorporates a mix of seasonal ingredients that help give it a sweet taste.

RANA Butternut Squash Ravioli

Costco is selling RANA Butternut Squash Ravioli in a 32 oz package (two packs of 16 oz) at a price of $8.69 USD. This seasonal pasta dish is a great wintertime version of the ravioli. These square orange ravioli are a little larger than average. It’s a quick and easy meal to prepare while still managing to have an impressive taste.

Rana Butternut Squash Ravioli Taste Test

The high-quality ingredients contribute to this dish’s natural flavor. Speaking of flavor, these ravioli have a very sweet taste to them compared to more traditional ravioli. Some might find it too sweet, but I liked it and wasn’t overwhelmed by it at all. I do think it could have used a pinch of salt though. The texture of the ravioli was soft but delightfully chewy at the same time. The filling had a buttery sweet flavor.

As far as presentation goes, I liked the square shape of the ravioli and the fun wavy edges. I should note that in other pictures I’ve seen of the product, the ravioli had a round or circular shape. But the square shape is the one being sold at Costco currently. Additionally, the orange color from the butternut squash was a fun added touch. The size of each ravioli is just over 2 inches diagonally.

How To Cook Rana Butternut Squash Ravioli

This dish is very easy to prepare, consisting of only a few easy steps. This is fresh pasta (uncooked pasta) so it needs to stay refrigerated but it also only takes 4 minutes to prepare!

The instructions call for:

  1. Bring 4 quarts of water to a gentle boil.
  2. Add the pasta to the water and cook for 4 minutes (if you want a softer bite, boil for a little bit longer).
  3. Drain the water from the pasta and prepare how you would prefer.

What Do You Eat Butternut Ravioli With?

Rana does recommend preparing the ravioli with extra virgin olive oil and grated parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), but I find this dish to be very flexible, so feel free to experiment! I prepared this dish with marinara sauce but others have used alfredo sauce or brown butter sage sauce. To complete the meal, consider serving it alongside a loaf of fresh baked bread or rosemary focaccia, and roasted vegetables or an autumn-inspired salad.

Is Rana Butternut Squash Healthy?

I was pleased to find out that these raviolis contain:

  • no artificial flavors
  • no artificial colors
  • no powdered eggs or egg whites
  • no hydrogenated fats
  • no GMO ingredients

How Much Does Rana Ravioli Cost?

At Costco, the Ravioli was being sold at $11.99, and at check out, I received a discount of $3.30. Bringing my total down to 8.69. Pretty good deal for two 16 oz packs! I’m seeing these ravioli go for around the $5-7 range for only 10 oz at other retailers. This makes Costco’s version around half the price of other competitors at $4.35 per pound.

Can You Freeze Rana Ravioli?

Yes! But if you do freeze it, Rana says not to thaw the pasta before boiling it and to boil it for an extra minute when frozen. This makes the product a good option for longer-term storage!

Can You Microwave Rana Ravioli?

Yes, you can microwave this ravioli, but I would not recommend it. The pasta would likely become very sticky and cook unevenly. Boiling the pasta only takes 4 minutes anyway so not much more of an inconvenience.

How Long Is Rana Ravioli Good For?

This ravioli will last for about two weeks when refrigerated. If frozen, the pasta will stay good for much longer.

These ravioli have 230 calories per serving, which is one cup. Keep in mind that sauces and cheese toppings will increase the calorie count. Also, I found that I ate more than one cup’s worth of ravioli, so the actual amount of calories will vary depending on how you top it off and how much you eat.
