Costco Hearts of Palm Noodles - Palmini

Palmini Hearts of Palm Angel Hair Pasta Noodles at Costco

The other day, I was walking around Costco, and I saw something new – the Palmini Hearts of Palm Angel Hair Pasta. I knew about the Palmini brand because I had reviewed Costco’s Healthy Noodles before, which are a similar low carb product. I decided to get a box and check it out, especially since I was curious about how it compares as a low carb/keto-friendly pasta.

What is Hearts of Palm?

Hearts Of Palm Pasta Is a Low Carb Pasta Alternative

Hearts of Palm is a new food item to me, so I had to do some research into exactly what it is. Turns out, it’s a vegetable found in the core of certain types of palm trees (hence the name) and is known for its mild, nutty flavor and tender texture.

Hearts of Palm has been eaten for thousands of years but has recently gained popularity as a low-carb, gluten-free pasta noodle substitute. To make the “pasta,” the hearts of the palm is cut into thin noodle-like strands. The resulting noodles have a mild flavor that can be paired with sauces, vegetables and protein to create a healthy low-carb noodle.

Why Buy Palmini Hearts of Palm Pasta

The Noodles Fit Into Almost Any Type of Diet

Palmini Hearts of Palm pasta isn’t your traditional pasta noodle, but there are many reasons to purchase this popular and unique alternative. The main reason people are buying these Hearts of Palm Pasta from Costco is because they are low-carb.

The Palmini Hearts of Palm noodles are an excellent low-carb/keto-friendly alternative to traditional flour pasta noodles. Each serving of Hearts of Palm noodles has only 4 grams of carbohydrates and 2 grams of net carbs.

Costco Hearts of Palm Noodle Benefits

In addition to the low carb/keto reasons to purchase these noodles, the hearts of palm spaghetti noodles only have 20 calories per serving and are gluten-free, sugar-free, and non-GMO.

All of these make for plenty of reasons for Costco to carry the product and for those looking for a healthier lifestyle or try them.

Alternate Costco Low Carb/Keto Options

Another low-carb noodle option that Costco sells is Kibun Healthy Noodles. In fact, it’s one of the most user-reviewed foods on our entire site.

When I tried it, I wasn’t into a low-carb lifestyle, and I really didn’t care for the texture of the Healthy Noodles.

Costco-Healthy-Noodles

I found the Konjac-based Healthy Noodles to be soft and mushy, and they just didn’t sit well with me. I felt like gagging on almost every bite.

Unfortunately, that’s my experience with a low-carb noodle substitute, so I’m hoping the Hearts of Palm Angel Hair Noodles will provide me with a more enjoyable and palatable meal.

Costco Cost Comparison

The Palmini Hearts of Palm Cost $2.65 a Box at Costco

Palmini Hearts of Palm Pasta can be found in Costco’s pantry and dry goods area of the store, and each box sells for $10.59. Each box of Hearts of Palm spaghetti noodles comes with four individual 12-ounce packs, each breaking down to a price of $2.64 per box. For comparison’s sake, an 8-ounce pack of healthy noodles at Costco sells for $2.75.

It looks like between the two low-carb noodles at Costco that Hearts of Palm is the better deal.

Costco Vs. The Competitors

I always like to take a look around and see if Costco is offering the best deals on food items, and in this case, they are the most affordable option by quite a margin.

Walmart sells the same 12-ounce pouch for $3.98 each, and Sprouts Farmers Market sells it for $4.79. Costco is easily the best place to purchase Palmini Hearts of Palm Pasta as it’s going to be half the price of other retailers.

Costco Hearts of Palm Pasta Taste Test

I’m coming into this Hearts of Palm review with an open mind, as my last low-carb experience with Kibun Healthy Noodles was quite disappointing.

I’m hoping that the Hearts of Palm noodles will offer a fresh perspective and a chance for redemption in the low-carb noodle department.

Crunchy Al Dente Noodle Like Texture

After thoroughly washing the hearts of palm spaghetti noodles, I tried them with no sauce. They look very much like pasta noodles or even rice noodles and are definitely on the “al dente” side, which I appreciate.

Soft But Firm Texture

The Palmini’s Hearts of Palm Spaghetti Pasta Noodles have a soft but firm texture that holds up well. Each bite has a slight crunch, making it obvious its a vegetable pasta and not your typical flour pasta.

The flavor profile of the noodles was rather neutral, with only mild undertones of nuttiness.

Palmini Hearts of Palm Noodles with Marinara

The beauty of the mild flavor of the Palmini noodles is that it pairs perfectly with sauces, vegetables, and proteins.

I tried the Hearts of Palm angel hair noodles with some marinara sauce, and it was a tasty and delicious combination. The noodles absorbed the rich tomato sauce, and the gentle flavor allowed the sauce to shine.

Hearts of Palm Noodles Marinara Sauce Pasta

The difference between Hearts of Palm noodles and traditional flour pasta is noticeable, but they make an excellent low-carb alternative that doesn’t significantly compromise on taste or texture.

At only 20 calories per serving and at an amazing Costco value, it’s hard not to make Palmini’s Hearts of Palm noodles my go to low-carb pasta choice.
